We’re about two weeks into the March Core Update/Spam Update combo and things are getting pretty sporty out there.
Here’s what I’m seeing so far.
(keep in mind that we still have a couple more weeks to go before the update is complete so things can definitely change)
Mass guru deindexing
One of the first things Google did was drop a ton of manual “pure spam” penalties targeting people who are prominent in the SEO community, especially the ones who were open about using AI content.
A lot of them were eventually re-indexed, but their traffic numbers aren’t looking good.
In most cases these manual actions are well-deserved. The above guru pretty much uses 100% AI content on everything, including his social media.
The interesting thing is that Google used Search Console data to go through and deindex all sites that the gurus owned.
In case it wasn’t obvious: if you’re doing something shady (especially if you’re public about it), don’t link all your sites together under the same account.
Now you know why I’m anon.
