I really hope you’re keeping your business to yourself.
But let’s be real, you’ve probably already told every single person you know and even people you don’t know (chicks at the bar, etc.)
Starting your first business is like being a BJJ white belt, something about it just gives you the uncontrollable urge to never STFU.
I am semi-judging you, but it is what it is. It’s too late to go back. You can’t un-run your mouth.
So I’m sure you’ve already encountered the full gamut of interpersonal problems: people giving unsolicited tips on how to grow your business (always stupid), people hitting you up for jobs/money (pathetic), people wanting to quote-unquote partner with you on a new business (the pitch always involves you doing all the work while they just tell you their ideas).
These are all annoying, but easy to ignore.
But there’s one thing that might trip you up (especially if you have a positive view of yourself): when people try to pass moral judgments on what you’re doing.
“Why are you hiring VAs from the SE Asia instead of creating American jobs?”
“You don’t want to manufacture here in the USA instead of China?”
“Why are you charging so much? Don’t you want to make it more affordable? Everyone’s struggling out there, don’t be greedy.”
“So you’re all about the money now, huh?”
Now if you’re the perceptive type you’ll notice that these types of comments always come from the most unimpressive people. It’s never someone running a successful business or someone who gets massive amounts of fulfilment from some other part of their life.
It’s the eternally grumpy and dissatisfied failures who try to bludgeon you over the head with passive aggressive bullshit.
Always.
