Are there any downsides to publishing news content?
Yes. If you have too many pages you can exceed your site’s crawl budget.
It might seem like Google has unlimited resources, but they don’t. They assign a crawl budget to each site that limits how many pages Googlebot will crawl and index.
This isn’t usually a problem unless you have a large site with thousands of pages. If Google is finding and indexing all of your pages (you can check this in Search Console) then you don’t have any issues. If they aren’t then you may be exceeding your site’s crawl budget.
If you want to publish news content, I don’t recommend writing random articles that don’t have any search volume. Base your news content off of trending keywords using Google Trends.
