There’s two things you need to know about neckbeards on Reddit: 1) they hate anyone who makes money and 2) they have way too much time on their hands.
In the past few days, the Reddit Neckbeard Army exposed a multi-million dollar campaign by affiliate network Paradise Media/Money Group to bribe the mods of popular subs to get exclusive access for their affiliate links.
This caught the attention of Reddit’s admins, who went on an epic banning spree and have even completely removed the mod teams of some of the biggest subreddits.
It all started with this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheseFuckingAccounts/comments/1kqpm64/reddit_mods_are_for_sale_one_company_now_owns_10/
Million dollar bribes for Reddit mods?
The most interesting part of this are the numbers.
The neckbeard who posted this claims that Paradise Media is “making six/seven-figure offers to moderators to acquire these communities and manipulate them at will”.
My first kneejerk reaction is that there’s no way someone would pay a million dollars to acquire a subreddit.
The OP never provided any proof, so his claim is all we have to go off of.
But if you look at the amount of traffic some of these subs get from Google alone (not even counting the native traffic from Reddit users)…it honestly could be worth it.
