Most linkbuilding advice is very “hacky”.
Real linkbuilders know that the key to success isn’t “weird tricks” or “sneaky tactics". The best way to build links is by building relationships first.
In today’s guide I go over some of the reasons why I’ve seen SEO’s struggle with building links and how to fix them.
Why SEOs suck at linkbuilding
Poor social skills
Let’s face it: Most people in this industry are downright weird.
They say that people choose their careers not based on their skills but rather their personalities. In the case of SEO, the most common personality type is someone who has zero social skills and wants to hide from the world behind a computer screen.
The average SEO is an extreme left-brain thinker who prefers analyzing and systematizing things rather than thinking abstractly or intuitively. They want a repeatable step-by-step process for everything they do and tend to panic when they have to fly by the seat of their pants.
The systematic and analytical approach to thinking can work well when you’re doing keyword research or creating article outlines.
It doesn’t work quite as well for anything involving people.
There aren’t any “magic lines” or “secret techniques” that’ll automatically make every single site owner want to link out to you. You have to accept that what works for one situation might not work for another. You need to get comfortable with figuring things out as you go.
