Why You Should Reinvent Yourself Every 10 Years
A stagnant life is no life at all
I consider it the ultimate compliment when I bump into someone I haven’t seen in a while and they look at me with a blank face, squint, tilt their head, then finally they kind of flinch back as they say something like “holy shit bro, I didn’t even recognize you. How you been? You look completely different”.
Why do I enjoy this reaction?
Because it’s how I know for an absolute fact that I’ve leveled up in life.
If nothing’s changed in the past ten years…you’re doing something wrong.
We all know people who haven’t evolved since high school.
They wear the same clothes, have the same mannerisms and body language, and have the same hobbies.
For most people, their outer body is an aging shell that contains a stagnant inner core.
They don’t change and they certainly don’t grow.
For the most part they just…stay the same.
This is something you need to avoid at all cost.
How it happens
Everything in your life compels you to stay in your lane. The world is hostile to anyone who wants to shake things up. It’s easier to just keep on being who you’ve always been, who everyone wants you to be.
It’s not actually true. But it sure as shit feels like it is.
Any time you feel that spark of ambition inside of you that wants to make a Big Change, it’s immediately followed by the neurotic voice within that tells you how stupid you are for even thinking about it.
It’s like the old cliche about the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other.
The Neurotic Voice Within tells you that your friends and family will judge/make fun of you. It reminds you that you aren’t the type of person that Does That. It tells you that things will be much easier for you if you stay on the path you’re on.
You have to ignore this voice at all costs. Achieving anything great in life depends on it.
