Coming from a bad background can be a massive advantage. I’m a big fan of using the Chip-On-Your-Shoulder Method to propel yourself forward in the early days. When you have nothing to lose you have everything to gain.
But coming from nothing (obviously) comes with its share of downsides.
One of those is that you’ll feel a strong desire to help the people you left behind. Your friends and family who fall into the “he’s a cool guy but he can’t get his shit together” category of human.
You see them struggling and you want to help. But the sad reality is that you can’t.
No one can reach down and lift someone up. If they want it they have to go out and get it for themselves, just like you did.
