Hey Tetra, new to the sub and reading up on everything. Researching affiliate companies to use and it seems most want a pretty proven site before partnering. How long into the process fo building your site should your be applying to affiliate programs? TIA
I have a site I developed at <niche>.com It's a comparison tool where users can sign in, save items to collections and view other users collections.
I have a blog at blog.<niche>.com that is a wordpress site.
Am I hurting myself by using this subdomain? I have been wondering if keeping the tool around is worth it. Much of my efforts recently have been on building up blog authority rather than tool development
I would recommend using subdirectories instead of a subdomain. A subdomain is really only useful if you have a section of the site that isn't related to anything else on your site, since Google treats it as a separate site from the main domain.
Also the subdomain could cannibalize some keywords from your main domain.
I would recommend consolidating it and using a subdirectory like niche.com/blog or something similar. Make sure you set up 301 redirects. You'll probably see a temporary drop in traffic but it should recover fairly quickly.
Thanks Tetra. This is my first site and it's still young. I'm not seeing much traffic yet, but having fun improving things with your help. I think next iteration I'm going to forgo the web development tool and focus only on the blogging aspect

Get to the low thousands per month level and you should get approved for most affiliate programs.

Let me know how it goes!
Slowly going from NGMI to maybe gonna make it. Appreciate these substacks. You're condensing months (if not years) down into a few weeks.
This is a huge help. Been trying to improve my game here. Thank you
Insane value. The colorwheel thing is so simple, but would not think of it in a hundred years. Simple does not mean easy!
