Probably a very dumb question...but how do I review gear, for instance, that I’ve never used? Am I researching other sites in my niche and using their reviews to build my own?

Yes.

Information from manufacturer's sites, Reddit, Youtube, everywhere.

Question for people ranking their e-com site. In the hemp supplement biz and wondering about the extent of silos since the main topic is about the effects of cannabinoids. I can pretty much make most articles interlinked, and I am starting to notice that I dont have any significant silos since everything is sort of related.

I am at 51 articles right now, which is still low, but how critical are silos within a unique niche like this? SEMrush and GSC is showing good ranking growth etc, but would like to optimize more.

Yes you should create silos.

There are always silos.

Off topic: I know you hate amazon affiliates (I do too) but should we apply and run with AA while we find better programs? Or is that just cope?

Expand full comment

You should apply to AA and use it as an affiliate program of last resort (for products not available elsewhere)

Thanks Tetra great article. QQ - how important is cadence? I had lots of free time and posted almost everyday during the holidays, but now I'm limited down to one or two articles a week. In the future, if I plan to go on vacation for 2 weeks with no wifi, will this affect how my site ranks?

2 weeks isn't a huge deal.

But in general you want to post regularly. Google doesn't like it when sites aren't updated on a regular basis.

Damn. I have staggered orders and basically when writers sent back, I just did all at once or one in a row daily. Then there might be a week lull before new content arrives. Will try to do it as they come and spread them out over the week. Was of the view get as much up as fast you can so google can rank your pages.

When using Surfer SEO content Editor writing multiple articles within the same silo, do you change the keywords setup for each article? If using the same set of keywords, wouldn't the articles turn out to be very similar since you are basically using the same guideline over and over again?

Expand full comment

You don't use the same keywords. You need to use different keywords with different search intent that are about the same topic.
